A form derived from rock climbing, sport climbing is when a person climbs walls with permanent anchors fixed to the rock or the wall. This is done so that person can have adequate protection while learning or practicing his skills and techniques. Sport climbing places emphasis on gymnastics, flexibility and strength and endurance. Sport climbs vary depending on the difficulty level and experience of the players Sport climbs are usually between 20 to 120 feet in length and have somewhere to the tune of seven to thirteen bolts; the number of bolts again depends on the route taken by the climber. Some routes even provide just three bolts to most advance climbers.
Sport climbing does require some equipment and prior training; equipment includes ropes, quick draws, belay devices, harnesses, runners, helmet and climbing shoes with some provision of chalk for sweaty hands. The climber while climbing can practice on the his or her moves because safety concerns are taken care off. Single pitch routes are the basis of sport climbing and climbers find it very easy to train on single pitch routes as compared to complex long multi pitch routes.
